How do I prepare for baptism?
The best way to prepare for your own or for your child’s baptism is prayer. Pray for the wisdom, guidance, patience and strength that you and your children may live as faithful disciples of Christ.
Role and Responsibility of Parents
People seeking the Sacrament of Baptism in the Catholic Church are making a commitment to live our Faith, and to raise their children in our Catholic Faith. This includes regular worship at Sunday Mass, active participation in parish life, a healthy prayer life and striving to live as a disciple of Christ through daily words and actions.
Role, Responsibility and Requirements of Godparents
Godparents serve as example and mentor for living our Catholic Faith. They guide their godchild in the ways of our Catholic Faith and encourage their godchild to live as a faithful disciple of Christ. Godparents must be at least 16 years of age, have received all three (3) Sacraments of Initiation (Baptism, Confirmation, Holy Eucharist), and be in good standing with the Catholic Church. Siblings, grandparents, relatives or friends may be godparents. Non-Catholic Christians are not eligible to serve in the role of godparent, but may be a Christian witness to a baptism.
