Faith Formation for Children with Special Needs
 
We would like to help provide Faith Formation for all of our parish children in the way that best suits the child’s formational needs.  We can offer help to children with special learning, behavioral, emotional or physical needs in a number of ways, depending on the level or type of need.
 
One way is by pairing the child up with a “Special Friend”.  A Special Friend is a volunteer in the classroom matched to the child to offer aid, encourage peer support, and provide individualized instruction when needed, helping create an atmosphere of acceptance and friendship where the special needs child can feel welcome within the regular classroom.
 
If a child would benefit more from an alternative Faith Formation program (perhaps small group or individual) rather than our mainstreamed classroom format, we can work with the parent/s in providing the appropriate formation.
 
If your child has a special learning, behavioral, emotional or physical need, and you would like to arrange some type or level of help for your child’s formation, please mark a star (*) on the registration form next to the child’s name (page 16), or contact Chris Shafer, Director of Catholic Faith Formation, at 891-8867 x224.  Also, if you would like to volunteer to help with this ministry, please contact Chris Shafer or mark that on the “Time & Talent” section of the registration form (page 17).
